Bahías de Huatulco
The development of the romantic bathing bays against the backdrop of the Sierra Madre del Sur is considered to be the latest and most ambitious major project of the Mexican tourism authority FONATUR.
This development is not yet complete, even though numerous all-inclusive facilities and luxury hotels have opened their doors in recent years. Only a few of the nine bays with their 36 fine sandy beaches are still directly connected to the road network or even built on. The rest can still only be reached by boat.
Of course the “Bahías de Huatulco” also offers a wide range of sports, from 18-hole golf courses to snorkelling and diving tours and yacht charters.
Today La Crucecita is the most important place in the region. It was originally conceived as the supply base for the tourist resorts and residence of Mexicans working in tourism. In contrast to the “fishing village” Santa Cruz and the hotel bay Tangolunda, an authentic Mexican small town atmosphere has developed here.
The cheaper and smaller hotels in the area have also settled in La Crucecita. If you shy away from the sometimes astronomical prices of international hotels and are still looking for a good starting point to discover the more remote beaches, you will find a good location here.
