Background

Southern Africa (Namibia and South Africa)

Although southern Africa does not belong to the so-called “New World” to which we have dedicated ourselves by name, the southern part of the African continent was “discovered”, colonized and settled in the course of the same era as America. Similar to the Genoese Columbus, the Portuguese Bartolomeu Dias was in search of the sea route to India when, around 1488, he became the first person to circumnavigate the southern tip of Africa with the Cape of Good Hope.
