As every year, Tayrona National Park will be closed several times for two weeks at a time in 2026.
The dates for the year are:
February 1 – February 15
June 1 – June 15
October 19 – November 2
These closures are the result of an agreement between the indigenous groups living in the park and the government. According to the indigenous inhabitants, “spiritual cleansing” is necessary to ensure the continued existence of humans, fauna, and flora. It has been agreed to allow the park (which is visited by approximately 250,000 people annually) regular periods of rest, not only for the flora and fauna, but also for the undisturbed performance of spiritual rituals by the indigenous groups living in and around the national park. Therefore, the dates of the closures are always the same, as they correspond to important events in the spiritual calendar of the indigenous people.
