The trip Mexico – Copper Canyon and Baja California connects two regions of the country that do not necessarily correspond to the widespread ideas of Mexico.
After the prelude in Mexico City, the trip actually starts in Chihuahua, where Francisco “Pancho” Villa and his revolutionary troops had their headquarters. With the legendary “Chepe” you will travel on one of the most spectacular railroad lines in the world through the high plateau of the Sierra Tarahumara and the canyon system of the Barrancas del Cobre to El Fuerte. In Creel you will stop for a few days to explore the spectacular landscapes of the canyons.
After crossing the Cortés Sea, the second part of the trip begins in La Paz. By rental car you will explore the southern part of Baja California with its desert landscape, many beaches and the species-rich Cortés Sea, which is also called “Mexico’s Galapagos” by marine biologists. But the highlight is the whale watching in the Lagoon of San Ignacio before you spend a few relaxing days in Todos Santos at the end.
