There are 13 official rest camps in the park, each offering accommodations of varying comfort: They range from camping with communal washrooms to lodges with upscale amenities.
As part of our Great South Africa itinerary, we have planned stays at Lower Sabie Restcamp as well as Olifants Restcamp.
Lower Sabie Restcamp is one of the most desirable camps in the park due to its location on the banks of the Sabie River, which is one of the few rivers in Kruger National Park that carries water year-round and therefore attracts a large number of animals in all seasons. In addition, there is a restaurant, pool, stores, fuel station and first aid facilities and so-called game drives are offered by day and by night.
Bungalows have bathroom, cooking area with hot plates, refrigerator, veranda and air conditioning.
Safari tents are tents built on stilts and wooden platforms, some with views over the Sabie, which also have bathroom and kitchen as well as ceiling fan and veranda.
Olifants Restcamp is located in the central part of the park on the river of the same name in a transition zone between two vegetation types, which is why a great variety of animals can be observed here.
The camp is elevated and offers wide views from shaded observation platforms as well as guided so-called game walks in the vicinity of the camp. Olifants Camp has a restaurant, cafeteria, store, fuel station, first aid facilities and mobile phone reception.
The bungalows have bathroom, kitchen, air-conditioning and veranda (some with beautiful views).
