Our new “Mexico Chiapas Pacific Coast” route combines mysterious Mayan cities and the natural beauty of the state of Chiapas with splendid colonial cities such as Puebla or Oaxaca and relaxed bathing days on the Pacific Coast. It is designed for all those who want to travel away from the crowds, are interested in nature and culture and have a bit of a spirit of adventure and discovery.

Starting from Mexico City you first visit the “City of Angels”, as Puebla is also called, before you fly to Tuxtla Gutiérrez. Here you pick up your rental car for the coming days, drive the few kilometres to the huge Sumidero Canyon (boat trip) and continue to the picturesque colonial city San Cristóbal de las Casas. From here a two-hour drive takes you to another world: The small town of Comitán is surrounded by lakes, lagoons, waterfalls, forests and Mayan cities, whose only partially uncovered pyramid platforms offer great views.
After a longer stage of about 6 hours you reach Frontera Corozal, the starting point to visit two of the most famous Mayan cities, Yaxchilán and Bonampak (the following morning). The boat trip over the Usumacinta to Yaxchilán, situated in a river bend, accompanied by the roar of the monkeys, already provides unforgettable impressions.
In the afternoon you will drive to Palenque, one of the most beautiful Mayan cities in the world. The return to San Cristóbal and Tuxtla Gutiérrez closes the circle in Chiapas. A comfortable night bus takes you to Oaxaca, considered one of the liveliest and most charming colonial cities in Mexico. Above the city in the high valley of the same name towers the Zapotec Monte Albán, whose visit is a must.
With your rental car you will cross the Sierra Madre. On the way to the small fishing village San Agustinillo, picturesque mountain landscapes await you with fantastic views of Mexico’s southern Pacific coast, where you can spend relaxing bathing days away from mass tourism.
After returning your rental car in Oaxaca you will fly back to Mexico City for one last overnight stay and your flight back home.
