Despite the enormous dimensions of the city, the historic centre between Alameda and Zócalo can be easely explored on foot.

The remains of the legendary Tenochtitlán – the old capital of the Aztec Empire – can only be seen in the ruins of the Templo Mayor and the impressive Museo del Templo Mayor. 700 years ago, the Centro Histórico of today’s Mexico City, the undisputed centre of the country with all its symbols of secular and religious power, was literally built on the ruins of the destroyed high culture.
